According to a study led by Dr. Jose Rivera Sanchez at the University of Western Canada, global warming will decimate the Canadian economy. Its not all bad news though "Canadians will no longer have the reputation of having pasty white skin" said Sanchez "we will be able to work on our tans year round." Sanchez also addressed some likely changes in the habits of Canadian seniors "Retirees won't need to go to places like Palm Springs to flee the cold winters anymore." Sanchez hypothesizes that towns like Osoyoos in Southern British Columbia will become boom towns attracting seniors by the thousands. "They like the warm dry air, I like to call it the silver rush. They will likely go south of the border every Saturday morning to go to the flee market. The United States will be the new Mexico." Sanchez says the Mexicans will be hit the hardest "Mexico will be a barren wasteland with roving gangs pillaging and raping."

Green for the sake of green
Over the past several years the "green economy" has been touted as the way of the future. Governments have been pumping tax payer dollars into it in the form of subsidies to "green" entrepreneurs. Now we see Spain, the leader in the so called "green Revolution" on the verge of bankruptcy. One economist found that each green job created cost the Spanish taxpayers $770,000 and each wind industry job cost $1.3 million.
If a product can't make it without government subsidies it just isn't ready for the market. That's not to say every company manufacturing solar panels is going to go broke, but its still a niche. Solar panels are great for devices that are difficult to plug into the grid like driveway lights or calculators but they just aren't going to power entire cities any time soon. Wind is often unpredictable and cannot be counted on as the only source of energy unless its stored in batteries. In many cases the areas suitable for wind farms are far away from population centres and carry high costs in infrastructure need to transmit the power.
We buy products that meet our needs and improve our lives and the green industry has fallen short of the mark. Its time for governments to stand back and let the great innovators thrive and the others fall by the wayside.

Frank Zappa on Crossfire
I love this interview, Zappa hit the nail on the head. He manages to make these guys look foolish, they fail to realize that if the Government is allowed to censor things that some people find distasteful they'll soon censor more than these guys bargained for. I think history is on Frank's side, musicians have continued to push the envelope and yet life goes on.
